In many Asian countries, mothers will get their baby girls' ears pierced after they are a month old. Ears piercing is an ancient art that has evolved through time.People pierce their ears for many reasons.Religious belief? Culture? Or simply just to make one feel good and raise self-esteem. In fact, any gender can get his/her ear/ears pierced .The size of the hole can be just pin size or even as big as a coin. Some natives pierce their ears and weight them with heavy earrings to make the holes as big as possibble because the bigger is the hole, it is perceived as more beautiful.
As for my daughter, she had her ears pierced today at age 17. She had been wanting to do this many years ago but she's afraid of the pain that the process might inflict. Stories such as ears will swell, very painful etc just scare her off. But girls are girls, it is natural to want to be pretty and be able to wear earrings just like their friends. This got the better of her and finally she gathered enough courage to have two tiny studs pierced into her ears at RM15 and relatively painless. No ouch! Well, my girl is growing up and she has got herself another new experience. She managed to overcome her fright and contemplate something she had set her mind to do. It might be nothing to some but to me, life is full of hurdles that we need to get over in order to continue with the road that we are heading. Giving up is not the answer. If you don't try, you'll never know.
